ARTISTS WANTED 

The Girdwood Center for Visual Arts is searching for new artists 

The gallery is a co-operative, open year round and is part of a Girdwood based non-profit promoting the arts and art education in the Four Valleys area.  We are actively seeking artists working in all mediums.

  Exceptions: photography, beadwork jewelry, and glass as we have multiple artists working in these mediums.

GCVA’S Art Auction and Wine Tasting

Join us November 5th from 6-9 P.M. at the Challenge Alaska building in Girdwood for a fun filled evening of food, wine, and art.  Tickets are $25 and you’ll be supporting a great organization at the same time.  The evening  includes a wide array of appetizers prepared by Chair 5 and Jack Sprat, a wine tasting sponsored by the Anchorage Wine House and a silent art auction with donations from the community and GCVA co-op members. 

Call the gallery at 783-3209 or stop by Wednesday through Sunday from 11AM- 4PM to buy a ticket.

Canvasing Alaska

GCVA is currently showing the photographic work of Wild North Photography in a show entitled “Canvasing Alaska”  The show wil be on display for the month of October.  Come on into the gallery and check it out!!

Paint and Port: a Fundraiser for the Girdwood Center for Visual Arts

The Girdwood Center For Visual Arts presents “Paint and Port”.  Join us Friday September 30, from 7:00 PM - 9:30PM  at the Yukon Building located at 3150 C Street in Anchorage .  You will enjoy a wine tasting session with Anchorage Wine House and an acrylic technique art class with artist Gina Edwards.  Each person will create their own “Red Sentry” acrylic painting while enjoying wine and art instruction. 

 Tickets are $50.00 per person and include all wine and art supplies.  Class size is limited so purchase your tickets early by calling  GCVA at 783-3209 or in person at the GCVA gallery.  All proceeds support the Girdwood Center For Visual Arts.  Sponsors include the Anchorage Wine House and Blaines Art.

First Saturday Art Receptions

The GirdwoodCenterfor Visual Arts presents our fall series of art shows:

 “Snapshot Stories” –  the photographic work of Dawn Bragg. 

Opening reception September 10^th from 6PM-8PM

The show will be on display August 29^th-September 30^th.

“Canvassing Alaska” –  the photographic work of Wild North Photographers Tom Collopy & Mary Frische.

Opening Reception October 8th^th from 6PM-8PM

The show will be on display October 8th through October 31^st.

Join us these first Saturdays for an evening  with these artists.   The evening is sponsored by Jack Sprat, Chair 5 and the members of GCVA.

Community Mural

Come on down to the park in Girdwood and enjoy the newly painted mural “Going to the Dogs”.  This year’s mural was designed and supervised by Rene Everhart.  Using a paint by number technique the participants got a chance to choose their favorite colors and contribute their talents to this community project.

The Girdwood Center for Visual Arts presents its annual summer art series of mini shows.  Each two week show features the work of a co-op member artist and gives you a chance to see a broader collection of their artwork.

July 24-August 6:  Kathleen Keusenkothen –”Alaska Photographs: not the usual subjects” and “Dream Keepers” magical little boxes to tickle your fancy. 

August 7-August 20: Kathy Peters/Letha Cress-Woolf – Soda Fired Pottery 

August 21-September 3:  Susan Watkins – “Up Close and Far Away”,  Original Oils

June Events at GCVA

Community Mural

The Girdwood Center for Visual Arts announces its annual Community Mural Painting Day.  Join us Saturday June 18^th from noon until 4 PM at the Girdwood Forest Fair Park.  Our mural artist this year is Renee Everhart.  Bring the family and let’s create!  

 

Art on the Lake

Discover art on a cruise around Portage Lake.  Girdwood Center for Visual Arts presents “Art on the Lake”.  Be at the dock by 5:45 PM on June 22.  The cruise is scheduled to leave at 6PM.   Tickets are $50 and include wine and appetizers provided by Portage Glacier Café and musical entertainment by Eli Whitney, Cade Loving, and vocalist Nicole Sword. There will be art demonstrations & a chance to win some wonderful art pieces in our raffle.  Tickets may be purchased at GCVA in person or by phone at 783-3209, or at the dock the day of the cruise.  Reserve your place now.    The cruise is sponsored by Holland America-Princess.
